About Us

Located in Tomball Texas (north-west Houston), SAI Drives Solutions specialize in the design, manufacture and supply of variable frequency drives (VFD). With over 30 years of VFD experience we have developed a range of innovative solutions that address the power & control requirements for most motor controlled processes including rated hazardous location areas (HazLoc) and safe non-rated environments.

Driving excellence in quality and safety

As part of our commitment to quality and safety we worked closely with UL and ETL to improve testing standards including the definition of testing methodology. To achieve UL and ETL listing as per UL 1203, we built a new temperature controlled testing chamber onsite and implemented new build and quality inspection procedures.

Product Portfolio

With drives of all sizes (FR3-FR12), power (1-600 HP) and ratings (Class I Div 1 to Class III Div 2), we have a vfd solution that work indoors or outdoors, stand-alone or as part of an automated control system.

XP Drive: Explosion proof drive: ETL listed Class I Division 1 explosion proof vfd. The small form factor drive can be fitted right next to the application. The XP Drive does not need to be fitted inside a costly purge enclosure. The XP Drive is available from 1-10 HP.

HazLo Drive: Hazardous Location Drive: UL Listed Class I Division 2 hazardous location drive. Available in 20-100 HP at 480 VAC standard or 230 VAC or 575 VAC options, the HazLo is enclosed in a NEMA 4X/IP66 stainless steel or carbon steel enclosure.

DURA-Drive: Our DURA-Drive is a packaged vfd, enclosed in a NEMA Type 1 for indoor or NEMA Type 3R for outdoor applications. Our patent- pending cooling design allows the drive to operate without supplementary cooling fans. The DURA-Drives are built to be tough and durable with low total cost of ownership.

Vacon NXP: The Vacon NXP line of variable frequency drives are powerful, efficient and field proven. With drives from 1-600 HP, 480 VAC. The NXP is considered the heavy-duty drive with most frames offering 50º C with no derate.

X Series: The X Series from Vacon is one tough VFD. Enclosed in a NEMA 4X (IP66) enclosure the drive is able to withstand pressure washing from only 6" away up to 30 HP or 12" away for drives up to 100 HP.

Packaged Drives

At SAI Drives, we use the term ‘Packaged Drive’ to mean an 'off-the-shelf' packaged solution, which includes a fitted VFD within an enclosure (size & rating specific) with all the necessary components to function stand-alone, requiring only power input and a motor lead to the application. Our packaged drives offer a wide range of custom options for example additional pilots, input and/or output power protection and auxiliary I/O communication boards. In contrast to just a component VFD, our packaged drives are a very convenient, reliable and easy to install solution.

We have packaged drives for non-rated indoor use, the ‘DURA-Drive NEMA Type 1’, non-rated outdoor use, the ‘DURA-Drive NEMA Type 3R’, hazardous locations (Class I Div 2), the ‘HazLo Drive’ and an explosion proof drive (Class I Div 1), the ‘XP Drive’.  We typically hold packaged drives in stock and can offer same day shipping.

Synonymous terminology

With over 30 years of experience we have heard all the permutations of variable frequency drives (vfd) from motor control, inverter motors, adjustable speed drives (asd), variable speed drives (vsd), drives, pwm drives, frequency inverters, inverter motors, motor inverters, vfd controllers, vfd motor, to vvvf. However, you say it, we understand drives so if you have a question, we are here to help.
